Marketing & Leadership Coaching
You know how to do the work, now let's talk about leading it.
Being good at your job doesn't automatically teach you how to lead a team, make strategic decisions, or know when it's time to hand something off.
And becoming a leader shouldn't mean losing the things that make you who you are.
I'm Anna Johnson. I coach marketing professionals moving into leadership and experienced leaders who want to get better at it.
We'll work on understanding what you bring to the table, developing how you think strategically, and learning how to lead people without trying to do everyone's job yourself.
Being good at your job is only part of being a good leader.
I've seen talented marketers get promoted because they're excellent at what they do.
Then suddenly they're responsible for budgets, hiring, managing people, setting direction, and explaining why the business should invest in one thing instead of another.
Nobody necessarily taught them how to do any of that.
I've also seen experienced leaders trying to do the work of five different people because they don't have the right team, don't know what to hand off, or feel like everything still needs their approval.
Neither situation makes someone a bad leader.
But being good at execution and being good at leadership are two different skills.
You need to understand the business, recognize what matters, make decisions, and build a team that can actually do the work.
And you need to understand yourself well enough to know where you add the most value.
That's what I help people develop.
What we'll work on together
There's no one right way to lead, and I'm not here to teach you to become someone else.
We'll focus on understanding your strengths, developing how you think, and learning to lead people with confidence and purpose.
Know yourself as a leader
Understand your strengths, recognize your blind spots, and find your voice. Learn what makes you different and how to use it to lead in your own way.
Think strategically
Look beyond the task in front of you. Learn to connect decisions to business goals, recognize opportunities, and understand what actually moves a business forward.
Lead people, not just projects
Learn when to delegate, when to hire, and how to build a team that works. Because good leadership isn't about doing everything yourself.
Leadership coaching for where you are now
Whether you're preparing for your first leadership role or already managing a team, we'll focus on the skills and decisions that matter at your stage.
From Doing the Work to Leading It
For marketing professionals ready for their next step.
You're good at what you do, but moving into leadership takes more than marketing experience. I'll help you develop the strategic thinking, confidence, and leadership skills to take on greater responsibility.
We'll work on:
Moving from execution to strategy.
Communicating ideas and making business decisions.
Preparing to manage people and lead teams.
Leadership Without Carrying Everything
For marketing directors, heads of marketing, and senior leaders.
You shouldn't have to be involved in every decision or do the work of an entire team. We'll focus on helping you lead more effectively while giving the right people the responsibility to do their jobs.
We'll work on:
Delegating, hiring, and developing your team.
Setting priorities and making strategic decisions.
Leading without everything depending on you.
Leading Fractional or Contract Work
For fractional marketers and contract leaders working with clients.
You bring senior-level experience to your clients, often within a defined amount of time. I’ll help you make your value clear, set realistic priorities, and lead the work without taking on every task the business needs done.
We’ll work on:
Defining the outcomes and responsibilities in your engagement.
Setting boundaries around time, scope, and added requests.
Communicating priorities, trade-offs, and results.
Leading and influencing client teams without formal authority.
Why work with me?
I've spent more than 15 years building marketing teams, growing businesses, hiring people, and making decisions where the results actually mattered.
Along the way, I've learned that being a good leader isn't about knowing how to do everything. It's about understanding what needs to happen, bringing the right people together, and knowing when to step back.
That's how I approach coaching. I'll challenge your thinking, share what I've learned, and help you recognize your own strengths. I'm not here to turn you into the kind of leader I am. I'm here to help you become the kind of leader you want to be.
How leadership coaching works
Every coaching relationship is different. We'll focus on where you are, what you want to achieve, and the skills you need to get there.
01. Let's talk
We'll discuss your goals, current challenges, and what you want from coaching. We'll also see whether working together makes sense.
02. Find your focus
We'll identify your strengths, areas for growth, and the leadership skills you want to develop.
03. Work through real situations
We'll tackle actual decisions, team challenges, and situations you're navigating at work. No generic lessons or one-size-fits-all advice.
04. Put it into practice
You'll apply what we're working on, and we'll discuss what's working, what isn't, and what to approach differently next time.
